Abstract
905,587. Bearings; lubricating. DAWSON & DOBSON Ltd. Jan. 3, 1961 [Jan. 4, 1960], No. 184/61. Classes 12 (1) and 12 (3). Bearings 14, 16, Fig. 2, carried by a shaft 10 are supported in a plummer block casing 12 by a split rubber bush 28. Gaps 40, 41 allow the rubber to flow when the shaft is loaded, and the bearings are sealed by seals 36, 38. Plates 42, 44 are embedded in the seals and are located between the bearings, a sleeve 24 surrounding the latter, and casing 12. In a modification, Fig. 5, seals 56 are integral with the rubber bush, shields 58 are provided, and pockets 60 in the bush or casing assist the flow of the rubber bush when loaded. The seals may incorporate lubricating material, e.g. graphite or molybdenum disulphide, or they may include a resilient packing ring of low friction material.
