905,546. Centrifugally moulding thermoplastic articles. PLASTOMATIC Ltd. March 27, 1961 [March 25, 1960], No. 10704/60. Class 87(2) A hollow article of cylindrical or rectangular section is moulded by partly filling a mould 31 with a thermoplastic resin powder e.g. polyethylene or polypropylene, clamping an end closure 34 to the mould 31, placing it on a set of rollers 23 above a gas burner 26, 27, 28, closing a lid 18 so that rollers 39 steady the mould 31. The mould 31 rotating about a horizontal axis is heated until a layer of fused resin is formed over its inner surface. The end closure 34 is then removed with its layer of resin, the excess powder removed, the end closure 34 replaced, the mould 31 and end closure 34 reheated while rotating about an axis prependicular to the plane of the joint line, said axis being inclined downwardly towards the end closure 34 to fuse together. The layers on the end closure 34 and on the mould 31. A small quantity of resin may be returned after the excess powder has been removed to assist in fusing the layers together. If a completely closed container is being formed a small hole is provided to allow for escape of hot air.
