905,038. Electric selective signalling systems. DEUTSCHE AKADEMIE DER WISSENSCHAFTEN ZU BERLIN. Feb. 16, 1960 [Nov. 9, 1959], No. 5538/60. Class 40 (1). In a system for indicating the extent of displacement of a scale 1, the scale is imaged on itself at D by a mirror 2 and the light pulses produced are detected by a photo-electric cell 3 and counted to produce a coarse measure of the displacement, and then, when the scale 1 is again stationary, the mirror 2 is slightly rotated until the image of the scale on itself is precisely in phase with itself, and the extent of rotation of the mirror 2 to achieve this is measured by a similar scale 13 and a linkage 12 to provide a fine indication of the displacement.
