Abstract
904,748. Unloading storage bins. RUSSELL, L. S. Nov. 10, 1958, No. 36087/58. Class 78 (4). Material is unloaded from a bin by a pair of screws 41, 42 (Fig. 2), mounted in an enclosed tunnel at the base of the bin and fed through elongated slots formed by the spacing between plates 46 and the walls 48 of the tunnel. The screws preferably rotate in the direction shown by the arrows and the top 24 of the tunnel may be hinged at 68 to facilitate access to the screws. Spaced webs 54 may form a grid preventing the entry of solid bodies to the tunnel. Spaces 51 separating the plates 46 from the walls 41 extend below the levels of the walls to trim up travelling waves set up in the material in the tunnel by the screws. The ship's hold shown in plan in Fig. 1 has two tunnels 18, 19 conveying to a central pit 31 from which the material is extracted by a pneumatic conveyer or a bucket elevator. The drives to the conveyers are independent to permit the trim to be corrected.
