Abstract

904,701. Shoe-polishing machines; electric polishing-machines; pads. RONSON CORPORATION. Dec. 23, 1958 [May 14, 1958], No. 41530/58. Classes 19 and 138 (1). A portable electric shoe polishing machine comprises a casing 24, Fig. 3, adapted to be held in the hand, and containing an electric motor 22 which drives through gearing a quill 62 to which may be attached a brush 12 for applying polish or a polishing pad 86, Fig. 8. Air is drawn through the casing 24 to cool the motor 22 by a rotary impeller 34 driven by the motor. The polishing pad 86 comprises a soft resilient layer 104, e.g. of sponge rubber, glued to a backing- plate 94, e.g. of polystyrene, and covered by a polishing cloth 88. The latter is readily detachable for replacement or cleaning, and is held to the pad by a resilient split-ring 90 engaging in a peripheral groove 92 in the plate 94.
