Abstract
1,126,136. Abrading. AMERICAN VELCRO Inc. 3 April, 1967 [20 June, 1966], No. 15052/67. Heading B3D. A device for holding flat replaceable abrasive pad 20 in position for frictional movement along a working surface comprises driving means 14, 15 for imparting a force in substantially the plane of the pad to move it over a surface to be worked, a flat surface portion 16 on the driving means, and means on the surface portion containing hooking elements 18 for interlocking engagement with the pad, the pad being capable of being peeled from the hooking elements. As described, the device is incorporated in an electric floor polishing unit having a motor driving the means 14, 15 consisting of a plate and a foam rubber, poluyrethane foam or other rubber or plastic disc 15. Lengths of tape 17 having the hooking elements 18 are secured to the surface 16 of the disc 15. Pads 20 of fibre, nylon or steel wool can be mounted on the device by interengagement with the hooking elements 18. The pads can be removed by peeling from the hooking elements but are retained on the disc during polishing. In another embodiment, the polisher has a reciprocating driving member.
