A shoe sole of substantially uniform thickness comprises a leather portion 1 secured to a plastic portion 2, e.g. a polyester isocyanate addition product, which is thickened towards the toe part. The plastic toe-piece may be thickened by means of a curved or stepped joint 3, 5, as shown in Figs. 3 and 5 or by a gradual rectilinear taper (not shown). The plastic portion 2 may be superimposed over the whole of the leather portion or over the toe part only.
