Abstract

903,855. Sliding clasp fasteners. STRAUSS, G. Oct. 7, 1960 [Nov. 24, 1959], No. 34446/60. Class 44. A sliding clasp fastener comprises two carrier tapes 2, 3 to each of which a string of interconnected fastener elements is attached, one of the strings comprising an elongated coil 4 and the other string comprising a rack 5 comprising an elongated member having a plurality of equi-spaced teeth projecting therefrom, the teeth having enlarged free ends and being adapted to engage between convolutions of the coil when the fastener is in the closed condition. The coil can be made of wire of circular, square, rectangular, elliptical or oblong roundedoff shape and the convolutions of the coil can either be circular, elliptical or oblong with rounded-off ends. In one form the rack has a single elongated member from which the teeth 6 protrude, the member being either of the same thickness as the teeth or of greater thickness to assist in guiding the slider, in which case it is grooved to increase flexibility. In another form, the rack is made from a flat strip of material the teeth being in the form of rungs broadened at the centre and the strip being bent to U-shape. The rack is made of a synthetic plastic material and the coil of steel wire or synthetic plastic material.
