Abstract
902,093. Disc brakes. DUNLOP RUBBER CO. Ltd. Nov. 21, 1958 [Dec. 10, 1957], No. 38295/57. Class 103 (1). [Also in Group XXIV] In a brake or clutch, pads of friction material 19 are retained, each within a metal outline holder 20 fixed to a backing member 14 ; the friction material being in direct contact with the braking member 14. The friction material may be formed of resin-bonded friction materials or sintered materials. The holder itself may be made from metal powder pressed and sintered to the backing-plate or may be a pressing, casting or the like brazed or welded to the backing- plate. The holders wear down at the same rate as the friction pads 19 but are strong enough to prevent deformation of the friction pads during operation of the brake or clutch.
