Abstract
901,459. Core constructions; pumps operating by electromagnetic interaction with fluids. UNITED KINGDOM ATOMIC ENERGY AUTHORITY. Jan. 26, 1961 [Feb. 17, 1960], No. 5694/60. Class 35. A magnetic lamination 10 for electrical apparatus comprises a ferritic steel tube, internally coated with a layer of insulating oxide 12, longitudinally flattened and end sealed by welding. The steel tube has a 1-3% chromium content to increase its ductility and magnetic permeability. In a re-entrant annular linear induction pump, one side of the pumping channel 16 is formed by a series of such laminations 10 shielded from the liquid metal by a protective tube 14. Tube 17 and heat insulator 18 form the other side of the channel and likewise protect the core structure 20 and energizing coils 19.
