Abstract

901,384. Hose couplings; flexible hoses. POLYMER CORPORATION. May 12, 1961 [April 30, 1960], No. 11530/60. Classes 99(1) and 99(2). A flexible hose coupling comprises an outer member 10 provided with a smooth surfaced recess 11 for receiving an end of flexible hose 12 and with a bore 14, and an inner member 17 adapted to be fixed within the bore 14 when assembled and provided with a nose portion 18 having a smooth external surface formed so as to surrounded by but spaced apart from the smooth surface of the recess 11 for extending into the bore of the hose. As shown, the nose 18 is tapered and an internally threaded sleeve 24 is attached to the inner member 17 which enables a further length of hose to be connected by means of a further inner and outer member. The recess 11 may also have a slight taper. The hose 12 comprises an inner tube of nylon or other similar thermoplastic material surrounded by a braided fibre, e.g. nylon, polyethylene glycol terephthalate or metal wire. Preferably an outer protective covering of nylon or other similar thermoplastic is applied. The portion of the hose gripped between the smooth surfaces is compressed so that the thermoplastic material becomes 25 to 40% of its original thickness.
