Abstract

901,284. Laminates. F.A. (MEMBRANES) Ltd. Sept. 7, 1960 [Sept. 9, 1959], No. 30751/59. Class 140. A water-resistant lining, which may be employed for waterways or reservoirs comprises a layer which includes bitumen or a bituminous material admixed with a quantity of glass in divided form, for example as finely-divided glass fibre, said layer being faced on each side with a layer formed from glass fibre. Flexible metallic strip, for example in the form of galvanized wire netting, may be embedded in the bituminous layer as reinforcement, and this layer may also contain a mineral filler, for example slate or silica flour, ground limestone or asbestos. In the Figure, a layer of bitumen, 10, containing glass fibres, is faced on each side by a glass fibre mat 12. A galvanized wire net 11 is embedded in the layer 10 closer to one side than the other. The lining may be made by pouring mixed bitumen and glass on to a glass fibre mat, which may have been produced from fine glass fibres which are resin-bonded into sheet form, and which may be reinforced by continuous glass yarns which may be bonded to the surface or otherwise incorporated, in a suitable mould, which may also contain the wire netting suitably tensioned, and then placing the other glass fibre mat on the surface of the bitumen in the mould. Alternatively the lining may be made semi-continuously or continuously in the form of strips. Specification 862,216 is referred to.
