[Also in Group XVII] A device for inverting filled containers, e.g. milk churns 5, to empty them, comprises a churn receiving holder 1 and a delivery holder 2 fixed respectively to shafts 3, 4 mounted in a frame (not shown), shaft 3 being coupled by an arm 12 and a rod 11 to a pin 10 on an arm 9 which is fixed to the shaft 8 of a flywheel 7 and the shaft 4 being coupled by an arm 19 and a rod 18 to an arm 17 of a double arm lever 14, rotatably mounted on a shaft 16, the other arm 13 of which has a slot 15 in which slides the pin 10. In action, the device is driven by a motor, the pin 10 rotating at constant speed in the direction of arrow A. In the first half-cycle of pin 10 the arm 12 is pulled downwards tilting the holder 1 in an anti-clockwise direction. Simultaneously, the arm 13 is moved downwards by the action of the pin 10 causing the arm 19 to be pushed upwards tilting the holder 2 in a clockwise direction, the holder 2 reaching its fully tilted position before holder 1 so that a churn support 4<SP>1</SP> does not foul the churn 5. By the time the holder 1 reaches its fully tilted position the holder 2 is already returning and at the instant that the two holders are equally inclined the support 41 engages the churn 5 which slides from holder 1 to holder 2. When the holder 2 returns to its initial position the churn will have been inverted and its contents will have run out. When the holders 1, 2 return to their initial positions the drive motor switches off and a conveyer is automatically advanced so that the inverted churn 5 is removed from the holder 2 and a full churn is placed in the holder 1. The drive motor then restarts and the cycle repeats.
