Abstract
899,446. Flanging and seaming. METAL HOLDING CO. Sept. 13, 1960, No. 31561/60. Class 83 (4). In apparatus for flanging and seaming the two edges 6, 7, Fig. 5, of metal sheet coverings of roofs, each sheet is passed through a series of rolls which progressively bend up the edges 6, 7 forming an inwardly bent flange 9 on the edge 7 and outwardly and downwardly bent flanges 8, 8a on the edge 6 adapted to engage over the flange 9 of the adjacent sheet during seaming. At least one pair of the flanging rolls 21, 22, Fig. 3, may have a shaping element 25 disposed in the rolls to ensure that the edges are accurately bent. In the seaming operation the upslanting flanges 6, 7 are passed through a series of pressure roll pairs such as 14, 15, Fig. 10, arranged on vertical axes and mounted on the same supporting structure as the rolls 21, 22. In the initial stage the flange 8a, Fig. 8, is pressed under the flange 9 by a conical roll 11 supported on a horizontal axis in a bearer 10.
