Abstract

898,076. Sewing-machines. SINGER MANUFACTURING CO. Aug. 23, 1950 [Aug. 25, 1959], No. 29108/60. Class 112 In a sewing-machine having a stitch finger around which stitches are formed and along which the stitches are fed as they are formed, the finger is constructed in two parts. The two parts are relatively movable so that tight or loose stitches may be produced by the machine. The finger may be incorporated in an overedge sewing-machine, in sewing attachments with presser feet having a stitch finger, in a straight stitching sewing-machine wherein a stitch finger is formed as part of the throat plate or part of the bobbin case holder, or in a cup feed sewing-machine. In the cup feed sewing-machine shown the stitch finger comprises a first part 28 and a second part 38. The part 28 is adjustably secured to a support 33 attached to the machine and overlies the feed-cups 22, 23. The part 38 is adjustably mounted on a movable support 43 which also supports the outer feed-cup 23. The parts are initially adjusted to lie with their blades 29, 39 substantially parallel to each-other on opposite sides of the material being sewn and at a distance apart to give the required looseness to the stitches formed around them. Variation in the thickness of the work being sewn will cause the cups 22, 23, together with the parts 28, 38, to move apart and vary the looseness of the stitches formed. Specifications 533,958 and 534,013 are referred to.
