Abstract
897,910. Making fasteners. F.T. PRODUCTS Ltd. Sept. 17, 1958 [Oct. 10, 1957], No. 31708/57. Addition to 753,238. Class 83 (2). [Also in Group XXV] A method of forming a fastener as claimed in the parent Specification includes the steps of shearing a prong out of a strip of metal, bending the prong out of the plane of the strip in one angular sense about a line transverse of the strip, and bending the strip in the opposite angular sense to that of the prong about a line which is transverse of the strip and at least approximately colinear with the line of bending of the prong so as to form a flange, the point of the prong being cut from that portion of the strip which in the finished fastener constitutes the U-base of the fastener. As described, the fastener is preferably formed with four prongs 20 and four claws 17. In a modification (not shown) only two prongs may be provided and the prongs may be bent out of inner portions of the strip of metal instead of the edge thereof.
