Abstract

897,231. Sleeping berths. MILLION-GUIETTUBAUTO. June 12, 1959, No. 20229/59. Classes 52(2) and 52(5) In a double berth, in which the lower berth is fixed to two vertical rails and the upper berth is carried on counterbalanced brackets running on the rails, the upper berth is received in a downwardly open compartment on the ceiling. As shown, counter-balancing devices 20 exert an upward tongue on arms 19 so that rollers 17 running in channel iron 11 support the weight of the upper berth 4a carried on brackets 7, 8. Truncated conical rollers 13 with rubber tyres are journalled in brackets 7, 8 and run in the channel section of vertical rails 1, 2 carrying the lower berth. Berth 4a is stowed at ceiling level behind a partition extending from the ceiling which may be pivoted or removable. The berth is locked in its stowed or operative position by. the engagement of a set-screw 30 in holes 29 and 28 respectively in bars 26, 27 depending from brackets 7 and 8. An access ladder (Fig. 1, not shown) is carried in a compartment formed on the underside of berth 4a. Reference is made to a counter-balancing device using rubber strips.
