Abstract

617,095. Berths. REED, S. F. April 23, 1946, No. 12260. [Class 52 (ii)] A berth structure comprises upper and lower berths 7 and 33 which are similarly supported between spaced uprights for movement between horizontal and vertical positions, each end of the upper berth 7 being supported by a link 10 pivoted to the berth and upright and by a roller 9 which travels in a slot 4 in the upright. To move the berth from the vertical to the horizontal position, a push rod 27 is operated, the movement being transmitted by a link system 21, 23 to release latches 17 at opposite ends of the berth,. and as the berth is lowered the roller 9 moves up the slot 4 and finally rests on a spring-urged block 25. To raise the berth, operation of the push rod 27 moves the block 25 aside and permits the roller 9 to descend. The lower berth is operated in a similar manner and is used in conjunction with a seat, the back 32 of which is pivotally mounted on the berth by curved links 56.
