Abstract

897,080. Pipe joints. UNITED KINGDOM ATOMIC ENERGY AUTHORITY. March 15, 1961 [March 17, 1960], No. 9465/60. Class 99(1). A rotatable screw-threaded sleeve or nut 3 engages a projecting part, e.g. a collar 5, on a pipe 1 and pulls the pipe end into sealing engagement with a coupling member 2, the collar 5 and the member having mutual interlockable parts so that during rotation of the sleeve for assembly and dis-assembly of the coupling relative rotation between the pipe and member is prevented. As shown, the member 2 and pipe 1 have sealing faces 15, 20 provided with a spiral groove or annular grooves and between which a soft metal washer 19 is compressed, and the collar 5 has a slotted extension 10 engageable over a projecting tongue 11 on the member 2.
