Abstract

The invention comprises metallised monoazo dyes containing one atom of chromium or cobalt bound in complex union to two monoazo dye molecules of formula <FORM:0896785/IV (c)/1> wherein R1 is a benzene residue, R-OH is the residue of a diazo component of the benzene series bound to the azo group in o-position to the hydroxyl group and containing a halogenated 1 : 3 : 5-triazinylamino group and n is a whole number. The halotriazine residue may contain two halogen atoms or one halogen atom and as substituents on the remaining carbon atom of the triazine ring, an etherified hydroxyl or mercapto group or a primary, secondary or tertiary amino group. The dyes are prepared by condensing a 1 : 2-chromium or -cobalt complex of an aminoazo dye of the above formula but wherein R is substituted by a primary or secondary amino group, with a trihalotriazine and, if desired, with an organic hydroxyl or mercapto compound, ammonia or a primary or secondary amine, in either order. The dyes may be used to dye superpolyamide fibres, wool, silk or leather, but especially cellulose in the presence of an acidbinding agent in blue shades. In an example the dyestuff 6-acetylamino-2-amino-phenol-4-sulphonic acid --> 2 - phenylamino - 5 - naphthol - 7-sulphonic acid is prepared, heated with aqueous sodium hydroxide solution to saponify the acetylamino group and the aminoazo dye converted into the 1 : 2-chromium complex which is condensed with cyanuric chloride.
