Abstract

896,060. Laminated window panels. PITTSBURGH PLATE GLASS CO. May 26, 1960 [June 15, 1959], No. 18617/60. Class 20(3) [Also in Group XI] A glass panel, built to withstand cold chipping at very low temperatures and under differential pressure stresses, is formed of glass sheets 1, 2 bonded to a thermoplastic sheet 3 in which are embedded metal frames 7, 8 of stainless steel, titanium or aluminium, the frames and thermoplastic sheet both extending beyond the margin of the larger glass sheet 2. Two strips 4 of electro-conductive material and bus-bars 5 are adhered to glass sheet 1 and covered by a film 6 of electro-conductive material. A parting material 11 which is elastic at low temperatures covers the margins of sheets 1 and 2. Sheet 1 is then bound by a thermoplastic strip (which may be a double strip of rubber and thermoplastic material) and sheet 2 is bound by thermoplastic strip 9. Rigid resin strips 12 provided with mounting bolt-holes 13 adhere to thermoplastic strips 3 and 9. Terminal blocks 14 (Fig. 1, not shown) are mounted at three corners of the panel and contact the bus-bars 5 by means of metal braids. Modifications of the invention show different-relative positions of the glass sheets, the thermoplastic sheet and the metal frames. U.S.A.
