Class 29 In a cascade thermoelectric system comprising a first stage 1, 2 with heat conducting members 7<SP>1</SP>, 9, 8<SP>1</SP> and a second stage 1, 2 with heat conducting members 3, 7<SP>11</SP>, 45, 8<SP>11</SP>, 6, the stages are separately made and thermally-conducting electrically-insulating connections 19 are provided between them. The connections may be insulating lacquer or a perforated disc of insulating material. The stages are forced into contact by foaming in situ an insulating block 20 around them.
