Abstract
895,297. Signal compression systems. ROBERTSHAW-PULTON CONTROLS CO. May 14, 1958 [Aug. 15, 1957], No. 15522/58. Class 40 (4). [Also in Groups XL (a) and XL (b)] A logarithmic amplifier for use in a neutron radiation measuring arrangement (see Group XL (b)) comprises two linear amplifiers V1, V2 with a feedback path which includes an amplifier V3 and rectifier network 60, 62, 70, 72 and 76 which produces across resistors 74, 78 an output voltage which is balanced with respect to earth. The output voltage is applied across rectifiers Y1, Y2 each having a forward impedance which is an inverse logarithmic function of its applied voltage. The junction of the rectifiers is connected to the grid of V1 and the input signal to the amplifier is applied to the grid via a resistor 48. An output which is a logarithmic function of the input is obtained from the anode circuit of V2.
