Abstract

895,070. Cylinders; pistons. KASTNER, O. M. Nov. 4, 1959, No. 37447/59. Drawings to Specification. Class 122 (1). [Also in Group XXVIII] The piston of a pump is partially withdrawn from the cylinder at the end of the suction stroke in which position it is washed by water jets or air blasted or brushed by a rotary brush to clean it. In addition the piston-rod may carry a pipe directing cleaning jets on the cylinder wall as the piston reciprocates. In a modification longitudinal passages in the piston-rod convey cleaning fluid to the periphery of the piston and remove the dirty fluid therefrom. The cleaning means may be brought into operation automatically at predetermined time intervals. By adjustment of the drive, the piston can be fully withdrawn for repair.
