Abstract

894,177. Gas turbine plant. HORNETT, A. Dec. 7, 1960, No. 42092/60. Class 110 (3). An engine comprises a working space E of toroidal form within which are mounted a power piston C and two scavenging pistons D, the pistons being connected to the shaft A by means of connecting-rods B. A piston-type compressor I is driven from the shaft A by means of gearing and in operation supplies air or air and fuel mixture under pressure through a non-return valve O into the combustion chamber F. The mixture is fired in the combustion chamber ; alternatively fuel is injected into the compressed air in the case of compression ignition, and simultaneously the spring- loaded valve J is caused to open by means of the cam and rocker assembly H, Q and the gases discharge through the outlet G to impinge on the power piston C which is thereby driven. The waste gases are discharged through the outlet L by the scavenge pistons D.
