893,487. Bowden and like mechanisms. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO. Ltd. Feb. 26, 1960 [Feb. 27, 1959], No. 6938/59. Class 80 (3). [Also in Group XL (a)] A chain for moving nuclear fuel elements in a tubular guide for performing a refuelling operation on a reactor comprises alternate links 1, 2 connected together by members 5, the links 1, 2 and members 5 being of hollow rectangular section to permit the passage therethrough of electric cables or compressed air pipes. Each member 5 has welded thereto two pairs of pivot pins 6, 7, the pins 6 extending through a pair of ears 3 provided at the ends of each link 1 and the pins 7 similarly extending through ears 4 on the links 2. Since the axes of the pins 6, 7 are mutually at right-angles, a universal joint is provided. Rollers 8 on the pins 6 are engaged by sprockets for driving the chain, the chain being guided in its tubular guide by four ball-bearings 15 provided on each link 1, 2. The Provisional Specification describes a modified chain with reference to drawings.
