892,927. Television pick-up tubes. ENGLISH ELECTRIC VALVE CO. Ltd. Feb. 10, 1960 [Aug. 4, 1959], No. 26548/59. Drawings to Specification. Class 39(1) In a television camera tube of the image orthicon type, a thin electrically-resistive layer is interposed between a substantially transparent conductive back layer and the Customary photo-cathode layer, and a control mesh or grid, maintained at a small potential with respect to the back layer, is spaced from the photo-cathode layer. The resistive layer which may be a metal oxide such as nickel oxide and may be 100 microns thick, prevents the emission from any point of intense highlight from increasing beyond that necessary to fully charge the target, and consequently reduces " halo effects " which would otherwise occur. The photo-cathode layer may be of mosaic form.
