Abstract
419,452. Television transmitters. ELECTRIC & MUSICAL INDUSTRIES, Ltd., Blyth Road, Hayes, Middlesex, and McGEE, J. D., 9, King's Avenue, Ealing, London. May 5, 1933, No. 13197. [Classes 39 (i) and 40 (iii).] The insulated elements of a mosaic screen 11 have on one side a coating of photo-electric material on which the picture is projected, and the opposite side is scanned by a cathode ray 21. The mosaic consists of short aluminium wires with a thin insulating coating of aluminium oxide covered by a conducting film of silver, Fig. 2 (not shown). The photo-electric emission from the screen is collected by an earthed grid 10. Each element of the mosaic thus receives a charge dependent on the strength of the incident light. When the cathode-ray is incident on an element, the latter reaches the negative potential at which its retarding effect on the ray so reduces its speed that the number of secondary electrons 22 equals the number of primary electrons, Fig. 3 (not shown). The number of secondary electrons emitted thus varies with the charge given photo-electrically to each element of the mosaic. The secondary emission is collected by a ring electrode 12, and the voltage across a resistance 18, connected between the electrode and earth, is applied to a valve 19.
