Abstract
892,085. Therapeutic lamps. CUFFMAN, J. C. Dec. 27, 1960, No. 44393/60. Class 81 (2). [Also in Group XI] An oscillating support for an electric lamp, which may be used for therapeutic applications or for display purposes, comprises a chassis having means for pivotally supporting a lamp and for oscillating the lamp support on an axis passing through the lamp, including an electric motor operating timing means controlling the supply of current to the motor and the lamp. In the form shown, the lamp 50 is carried in a socket 49 mounted in a U-shaped support 100 carried by pivots 102, 104 on spaced frames 60, 70 and rocked by means of a link 96 carried by a crank 92 on the shaft 88 of a gear-box 86 driven by an electric motor 32. The shaft 88 also carries a gear 90, meshing with a gear 112 which drives a worm 116 to rotate a gear 118 with which a cam plate 124 is pressed into frictional contact by a spring plate. The cam plate is carried by a shaft 120 provided with a setting knob and has a circular face with a flattened portion 132. The end 27 of an arm 18 rides on the cam plate, the opposite end of the arm carrying means for closing the contacts of a switch in the circuits of the motor and lamp. Rotation of the setting knob causes the end 27 of the arm 18 to ride on the circular face of the cam plate 124, closing the lamp and motor circuits. The motor then rotates the cam plate until the flattened face 132 is reached, the switch then opening the circuits of the lamp and motor.
