1317143 Windscreen washers AC ADEX ENG CO Ltd 22 March 1972 [4 June 1971] 19012/71 Heading A4F [Also in Division H1] A windscreen washer control device comprises as an integral unit a manually operable self restoring electric switch, a water pump driven by an electric motor operable by the switch, and timing means controlled by the motor for retaining the pump in operation for a predetermined period after a momentary operation of the switch. The motor 4 for driving the washer pump 5 is energized by depressing a push button 2 to tilt a rocker 26 thereby engaging contacts 32, 37 in the motor circuit. Tilting of the rocker 26 raises its end 28, against the action of a blade spring 29, out of engagement with peripheral notches in internally geared rings 22, 23 to permit the rings to be driven by the motor 4 via a gear 21 Fig. 2 (not shown) whilst the end 28 is engaged by the outer surfaces of the rings 22, 23 to maintain the contacts 32, 37 closed when the push button 2 is released. The gear rings 22, 23 have different members of internal teeth so that a period of operation of the motor 4 elapses before the notches are again aligned to receive the end 28 and thereby disengage the contacts 32, 37 and stop the motor. The blade spring 29 may be replaced by a coil spring. Alternatively the contact 32 may be carried by a blade spring acting upon the rocker arm 26.
