In self-opening pliers, wire strippers &c. in which a helical spring 7, Fig. 2, is located in opposed recesses 14 adjacent the pivot 8, enlarged end convolutions 15, Fig. 3, of the spring 7 are engaged in annular grooves of the recesses 14 to prevent inadvertent disconnection, A screw stop 17 in one of the arms 9 abuts the inner face of the other arm 10 to limit the closure.
