Abstract

890,959. Tubeless tyres. ECKERT, W. Feb. 9, 1959, No. 4390/59. Class 144 (2). A tubeless tyre is formed with a radially inwardly directed lip 9 on each bead toe to seat in a corresponding radial depression or step in the rim bead seat, the lip 9 being reinforced by the extension therein of a fabric carcase ply 11 and being covered by the rubber liner 12 of the tyre, and the radially inner surface of the bead, other than the lip 9, being of unrubberized fabric. As shown, the tyre is used with a circumferentially-divided rim which is split either centrally as in Fig. 1, or asymmetrically, as in Fig. 3, and is either flat-based as shown, or wellbased. Each rim part 1, 2 has a tapered bead seat 5 the axially inner end of which is stepped radially inwardly to accommodate the sealing lip 9. In the construction shown in Fig. 1 the rim halves 1 and 2 are sealed by a rubber packing-ring 4, whereas in the construction of Fig. 3 a bead lip 9 is received in a recess 13 defined by the two rim parts and serves to seal the rim parts on assembly.
