Abstract

846,016. Rim sealing bands. AVON INDIA RUBBER CO. Ltd. March 11, 1958 [March 25,1957], No. 9777/57. Class 144 (2). A rubber or like wheel rim sealing and lining band C is moulded so that its edge portions C<SP>1</SP>, C<SP>2</SP>, C3 embrace the tyre beads A<SP>1</SP>, A<SP>2</SP> and terminate at C<SP>5</SP> radially outwardly of the bead heels, the portions C3 extending radially outwardly of the bead toes in the form of circumferential corrugations which are interconnected by a central radially-outwardly concave portion C<SP>4</SP> of the band. As shown, the band is applied to a centrally split wheel rim B to seal the rim halves B<SP>1</SP>, B2 against loss of inflation air from the tubeless tyre A, and is formed with beaded terminal edges C<SP>5</SP> to facilitate correct location of the band. Alternatively the edge portions C<SP>1</SP> of the band may be chamfered to fit snugly between the tyre beads A<SP>1</SP>, A<SP>2</SP> and the rim flanges B<SP>3</SP>, B<SP>4</SP>, respectively. The band may be made of butyl rubber.
