Abstract
889,271. Generating combustion products under pressure. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO. Nov. 29, 1960 [Dec. 14, 1959], No. 40997/60. Class 51 (1). [Also in Group XI] A pilot burner 18 for the after-burner of a gas turbine engine comprises a fuel supply pipe 21 extending transversely into the hot combustion gas stream in the after-burner and an open-ended tubular member 24 of cardioidal cross-section disposed at the discharge end of the fuel supply pipe 21 and arranged with its longitudinal axis parallel to the hot combustion gas stream. The fuel pipe 21 directs the fuel towards the cusp of the cardiodal cross-section. The flow of combustible gas through the tubular member forms with the fuel a pair of spiralling vortices which are directed into a liner 16 in the after burner casing 13. The main supply of fuel is provided by spray bars 17. An annular flame holder 32 comprising four scoop sections is provided.
