Abstract

888,250. Joint-making packings. BOPP & REUTHER G.m.b.H. Nov. 18, 1960, No. 39741/60. Class 122 (3). [Also in Groups XVIII and XXIX] A main seal 5 and a separate auxiliary seal 7, Fig. 1, are provided for mounting a flangeless cover 4 to a flangeless casing 1 of a vessel for fluids, the seal 7 being located on that side of the seal 5 remote from the interior of the vessel. The cover is retained in the casing by a segmented ring 3 engaging a groove in the casing. The seal 7, of resilient material, is held in place partly in a groove at the edge of the cover 4 by an auxiliary cover 9 bolted thereto and bearing on the seal directly or, as shown, through the interposition of a ring 8 of metal or other non-elastic material. In a modification, Fig. 2, the cover is secured to the casing by bolts 11 provided with auxiliary seals 18, the main seal being an 0-ring 17 in a groove in the casing and an auxiliary seal 12 of circular cross-section being located in a notch 14 at the adjoining edges of the cover and of the end face of the casing and retained by a ring 16 bolted to the casing.
