Abstract
<PICT:0887880/III/1> <PICT:0887880/III/2> <PICT:0887880/III/3> In a heat exchanger (an evaporator) a bundle of tubes 17 and 50 is secured to two relatively movable supports 19 and 50; tubes 17 are prebent and of different coefficient of thermal expansion from the straight tubes 50, so that flexure of the tubes 17 on heating, or cooling, descales them. The evaporator as shown in Fig. 1 has a water inlet 40 and steam outlet 44; the tubes 17 & 50 are supported allowing lateral flexing on horizontal bars 37 in frames 35 (Fig. 3, also). The tubes 17 may be heated by passing steam through them and cooled by sprinking water via inlet 47 and sprinkler 48 (Fig. 1).
