Abstract

The invention comprises yohimbinone of the formula <FORM:0887664/IV (b)/1> and a process for its preparation by reacting yohimbine or b -yohimbine with an aromatic ketone, particularly 9-fluorenone, in the presence of an alkali metal alcoholate of a tertiary alcohol, especially potassium t-butylate. The reaction is preferably carried out by refluxing the reactants in benzene. Detailed examples are given.
