886,239. Tube walls for furnaces. SIEMENSSCHUCKERTWERKE A.G. May 16, 1958 [March 15, 1958], No. 15867/58. Class 51 (1). [Also in Group XIII] A forced-flow, once-through steam boiler has an upright combustion chamber lined with parallel-connected tubes including a series of spaced steam generating tubes 4 extending from the bottom to the top of the chamber, these tubes serving to suspend the entire combustion chamber from overhead steelwork so that it may expand freely in a downward direction. Feedwater enters the bottom ends of the tubes 4 through preheater loops 2 disposed therebetween, the loops being of such length that the water is raised to boiling temperature therein. The tubes 4 are dimensioned and the velocity therethrough is adjusted by throttling orifices fitted at the preheater inlets 1 so that 75 to 80% of the water is evaporated by the time it reaches the upper outlets, the temperature of all of the tubes 4 thus being maintained at the same level, i.e. boiling temperature, throughout their length. Steam superheating tube loops 5 are disposed between the upright tubes 4 in the upper part of the chamber. Girders 6 encircle the combustion chamber at intervals throughout its height and the tubes 4 are secured thereto by welded-on fins 7 which are secured to plates 6A welded to the inner flanges of the girders. The loops 2, 5 are held in the plane of the tubes 4 by welded-on hooks 8 engaging in holes in the furnace walls. The walls are insulated by rammed-in insulation 16, diatomite plates 9 and slag wool mats 15 held together by anchor irons 11 welded to the tubes 4. Sheet metal lining plates 12 with expansion corrugations 14 cover the mats 15 between the girders 6.
