Abstract
885,910. Mine roof supports. DOWTY MINING EQUIPMENT Ltd. July 31, 1959 [Aug. 1, 1958], No. 24882/58. Class 20(2) A mine roof support comprises two laterally spaced sets of vertically extensible frames A, C and B, D bridged by transverse roof bars 21, a jack 16 connecting the frames of each set for advancing one frame while the other acts as an anchorage, the support protecting a mine machine 5 and a space on each side for miners. The frames of each set are connected by guide bars 17 pivoted at 18 to the foot plate of the after frame and having a bridge piece 19 limiting movement of the forward frame. The ends of the cross bars 21 enter the hollow sections of the roof bars of the frames where each is mounted by a pin 53 Fig. 4 on a cylinder 48 adapted to slide on a pin 45 having a dome-shaped spigot and socket connection with the base of the roof bar. A rubber sleeve 49 maintains the cylinder 48 in raised position until the bar 21 is forced against the roof. This connection allows for relative movement of the two sets of roof supports. Bars 20 pivoted to bars 21 and engaging slots in adjacent bars 21, protect the spaces on each side of the machine 5. The jack 16 is enclosed and pivoted in the foot plate of the forward frame and is pivoted to a collar sliding on a vertical rod on the foot plate of the after frame.
