Abstract

885,361. Gun breech mechanisms. RHEINMETALL G.m.b.H. Sept. 23, 1960 [Sept. 26, 1959], No. 32859/60. Class 92. A gun breech mechanism comprises a transversely sliding breech block 1 on which is rotatably mounted a magazine 6 for primers and a sliding, or as shown, a pivotable member 2 provided with an opening 5 for receiving a primer is located between the breech block 1 and barrel in the closed position of the breech mechanism. The arrangement is such that when the breech block moves downwardly to the open position, the member 2 swings to the open position shown in broken lines and a lever 7 is actuated to move a primer from the magazine 6 to the opening 5. When the breech block moves downwardly a sprung stop 15 in the breech block engages a projection 16 of a primer ejector 4 pivoted at 17 to the member 2 to eject the fired primer from the opening 5. On continued opening movement a stop 18 in the breech block engages a projection 19 on the member 2 to swing the member 2 to the open position shown. During this movement, the member 2 engages a pin 8 which causes movement of the lever 7 to feed a primer from the magazine 6 to the opening 5. A lever 9 which engages in a guide grove 14 serves to rotate the magazine step by step. The member 2 is also provided with an annular obturation 3 which in the closed position projects into the barrel.
