Abstract
An aqueous solution for treating textiles contains at least 2% by weight of a condensate made by reacting 4-20 mols. of formaldehyde at a pH of 6-11 with one mol. of a dihydrazide-R(CONHNH2)2, where R is an alkylene radical of 2-6 carbon atoms interrupted by 1 or 2 oxygen or sulphur atoms. Suitable dihydrazides are those of diglycollic acid, thiodiglycollic acid, oxy-dipropionic acid, HOOCCH2OCH2CH2 OCH2COOH, or of 3-(2-carboxy-ethoxy)-propionic acid. Mixtures of dihydrazides may be used. Catalysts may be added to the treating bath to facilitate curing of the resin on the textile. Suitable catalysts are magnesium chloride-, aluminium chloride formate or tartrate; p-toluene sulphonic acid or its ammonium or amine salts; methylamine or piperidine hydrochloride. Specification 882,998 is referred to.ALSO:Cellulosic textile materials are rendered resistant to creasing and wrinkling by impregnation with an aqueous condensate of formaldehyde with a dihydrazide, R(CONHNH2)2 in which R is alkylene with 2-6 carbon atoms interrupted by 1 or 2 oxygen or sulphur atoms (see Group IV (a) ), followed by heating to dry and cure the polymer. About 0.1% to 2% of catalyst may be incorporated in the treating bath. A number of detailed examples of treatment of cotton, linen and regenerated cellulose fabrics are given, with comparative figures for physical properties of the treated fabrics. Specification 882,998 is referred to.
