Abstract

884,420. Composite photography. BUSH & RANK CINTEL Ltd. Sept. 24, 1959 [Sept. 26, 1958], No. 30805/58. Drawings to Specification. Class 98(2). In order to enable the satisfactory production of a record of a naturally illuminated scene and an artificially illuminated display by simultaneous recording of images of the scene and display despite large differences between their levels of illumination, the recording medium employed is a photographic film comprising separate layers sensitive to light in respective non-overlapping spectral regions and the optical path for the naturally illuminated scene intrudes colour-selective means so that the images of scene and display are formed by light of different spectral conposition so as each to expose only one layer, whereby by subjecting the two layers to separate developing procedures satisfactory images of both scene and display may be obtained. Typically a bipack film comprising separate emulsion layers one sensitive to red and the other to green light is exposed simultaneously to a naturally illuminated scene and to a cathode ray tube display giving a green trace image, the two images being combined by a semi-transparent dichroic mirror which reflects green light from the display and transmits red light from the scene, a minus green filter being placed in the direct light path from the scene to the mirror. If desired a. filter could also be disposed between the mirror and the cathode ray tube.
