Abstract

881,191. Prestressed concrete. NATIONAL RESEARCH DEVELOPMENT CORPORATION May 28, 1958 [May 28, 1957], No. 16903/57. Class 20(4) Prestressed concrete is post-tensioned by levers 11, 12 having ends 19, 18 which respectively engage a fixed abutment on the concrete and the rod to be tensioned, and a tensioning jack 24 which engages the levers on one side of the rod and concrete member. The levers are pivoted at 13, 14 to a bar 15 and two pusher jacks 24 on either side can cause tension in a rod secured to an abutment block 18, a sleeve 17 bearing against an anchorage for the rod which bears against the concrete or is embedded therein. The block 18 and sleeve 17 may be slotted to clear the rod without necessitating its threading therethrough. In modifications, the levers are pivoted together, between the jack and the rod. The apparatus may be arranged to simultaneously tension a number of wires or rods laid around a loose central core member.
