Abstract
876,599. Lubricating. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO. Ltd. June 30, 1959 [July 23, 1958], No. 23740/58. Class 12 (3). In a lubricating system for the bearings 4, 8 of a vertical shaft 1, 2, a fan 5 secured to the top of the shaft 1 supplies air under pressure through a restricted orifice 20, thereby causing oil from a reservoir 9 to be drawn up a tube 14 to become entrained with the air and thence supplied in mist form to the bearings 4, 8. Some of the oil mist passes directly to the bearing 8 through ducts 16 and the remainder passes through the bearing 4 and thence via ducts 15 to the bearing 8. An oil flinger 21 returns oil from the lower bearing 8 to the reservoir 9. Air is recirculated through a duct 17 connecting the lower bearing housing with a filter 5 disposed at the inlet to the fan 7, the filter 8 also being in communication with the atmosphere. An external filler and inspection unit 22 is attached to the side of the reservoir.
