Abstract
875,738. Drafting-apparatus. HANSEATISCHE MOTOREN-G.m.b.H. March 6, 1959 [June 14, 1958; July 12, 1958], No. 2079/59. Class 120(2) Apparatus for a textile drawing-frame or gillbox, which corrects for variations in the thickness of the sliver undergoing treatment and is adjustable for slivers of differing basic thickness, comprises a pair of sensing-rolls 1, 2, variable-speed means 14 for driving drawing-rolls 31, 30 means 11 for controlling means 14 in accordance with the reaction of the sensing-rolls to changes in the thickness of a sliver passing between them, and manual control means 17 for modifying the response of the variable-speed means 14 to ensure the same change of speed for a given percentage change in sliver thickness whatever the size of the sliver undergoing treatment. The control means 17 are operable from a point outside the apparatus, and means 11 may be a servomotor which operates means 14 through a delay device DEL DEV which ensures that the reaction of the sensing-rolls is inoperative unless a change in thickness persists beyond a certain time. A gillbox, Fig. 2, includes the sensing-rolls 1, 2 and drawing-rolls 30, 31 with feed rolls 26, 27 between them; the lower sensing and feed rolls are driven at constant speed, and the lower drawing-roll is driven from the output shaft of means 14 which is an infinitely variable change-speed gear. The position of upper roll 1 can be adjusted at 1<SP>11</SP> and lower roll 2 is on one end of a pivoted lever 2<SP>1</SP> supporting at its other end a weighted rod 4 having a slicker 5. This is in contact with one arm of a pivoted lever 6 the other arm of which is in contact with a roller 9<SP>1</SP> on a switch arm 9 pivoted at 10<SP>1</SP>. The pivot 6<SP>1</SP> of lever 6 is carried on a spindle 7 to be adjustable horizontally when a handle 17 is rotated. Spindle 7 also carries a cam 18 the position of which is indicated at 20. Rod 4 has an arrow 16<SP>1</SP> indicating the datum position of roll 2. With the roll in this position, a piece of sliver of the required thickness is inserted between rolls 1 and 2, the deflection of roll 1 being noted at 3. Handle 17 is now rotated to move pivot 6<SP>1</SP> relatively to members 5 and 9<SP>1</SP> to vary the relative leverages applied to them, the movement being continued until the readings at 20 and 3 are the same, When this is so, cam 18 being appropriately shaped, a given percentage variation of sliver thickness produces the same movement of switch arm 9 irrespective of the basic thickness of sliver being treated. Roller 1 being now locked in position at 1<SP>11</SP>, roll 2 moves with variations in the thickness of the sliver and operates rod 4 to change the position of sticker 5 whereby roller 9<SP>1</SP> is operated to rock arm 9 to close one of two contacts in circuit by leads L via the delay device with servomotor 11. The latter includes a plunger 10 on a rod operatively connected at 12, 13 with.change speed gear 14 for the drawing-rollers to be driven faster or slower as the plunger moves. Movement of the plunger rod continues until arm 9 to which it is pivoted at 10<SP>1</SP> is rocked to open the contacts. The electric contacts can be replaced by means controlling a hydraulic or mechanical servomotor system and the deflection of plunger 10 may be indicated at 10<SP>11</SP>. An alternative method of initially setting the sensing-rolls is described.
