Pliers having flat sided jaws pivoted together at b have handles b<SP>1</SP>, b2 which are normally urged to open position by a wire spring a of horse shoe or equivalent formation placed superficially against the side face of the pliers adjacent the pivot b. The ends of the spring are attached to the handles by bending them and introducing them into apertures in the handles or they may be eyeletted and screwed, or welded.
