875,612. Laminates. IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd. Dec. 23, 1959 [Jan. 16, 1959; Nov. 9, 1959], Nos. 1641/59 and 37875/59. Class 140. In a process for cementing two surfaces together, at least one of which is a glass surface, the glass surface to be cemented has first applied thereto vinyl trichlorosilane and there is then interposed between the surfaces to be bonded a polymerizable cementing layer that is liquid at the cementing temperature and contains as the essential polyrnerisable constituent thereof methyl methacrylate with or without a minor proportion of methyl and/or ethyl acrylate in monomeric in partially polymerized form, or in monomer form containing in solution solid homopolymers or copolymers of any of methyl methacrylate or methyl or ethyl acrylate and thereafter causing said cementing layer to be polymerized, said cementing layer being substantially free of any polymerizable compound containing more than one ethylenic double bond per molecule. The vinyl trichlorosilane may be applied as a solution in an organic solvent. Specified solvents are toluene, benzene and xylene. The cement may be in the form of a polymer/monomer syrup comprising monomeric methyl methacrylate in which polymethyl methacrylate has been dissolved. The layer to which the glass layer is bonded may be polymethyl methacrylate, polyvinyl chloride, cyclized rubber, wood or glass.
