Abstract
875,514. Clutch control. CLAYTON DE-WANDRE CO. Ltd. Feb. 8, 1960 [Feb. 19, 1959], No. 5798/59. Class 80 (2). In a fluid pressure servomotor clutch control system for effecting rapid disengagement and controlled re-engagement of the clutch, the second stage of the re-engagement is effected more slowly by the closure of a restrictor valve when the pressure in the servo-cylinder falls to a predetermined value. In the arrangement shown, operation of a micro-switch 23 on the gear lever opens a solenoid-controlled valve 27 to admit compressed air from a supply pipe 28, through a pipe 11, past a non-return valve 12, into the cylinder 1 to act upon the piston 2 and disengage the clutch 5 through a lever 4. The pressure of the air acting upon a diaphragm 18 lifts a restrictor valve 17 off its seating 16 against a loading spring 19. When valve 27 is closed, air from cylinder 1 escapes directly through a by-pass 15 opened by valve 17 until the pressure falls to a value when spring 19 re-closes valve 17, when it can only escape through the restriction 22 in the valve, thus reducing the rate of clutch re-engagement.
