[Also in Group XXVII] A sound-absorbing unit for suspension in a building consists of a perforated tube, e.g. of sheet metal, of uniform cross-section and with completely open ends, and covered on its inner or outer surface only with a thin layer of soundabsorbing material, e.g. mesh, fabric, tissue or sprayed fibre. The tube may be of elliptical, circular or rectangular cross-section. A plurality of tubes, which may differ constructionally, may be used joined end-to-end or disposed coaxially or otherwise within one another. Fig. 6 shows a tube 60 with an external sound-absorbing layer and suspended at 63 between beams or walls 61.
