[Classes 20 (iii) and 20 (iv)] A sound-insulating door or partition comprises an air-impervious diaphragm 5 and material with interstices, such as metallic or cellulosic wool, wood fibre, or a ceramic body with intercommunicating pores, disposed on each side of the diaphragm and exposed to the air on each side of the door or partition, say through perforated panels 2. The diaphragm may be made of non- vibrating material such as roof felting, or felting may be loosely fastened by staples to the diaphragm, which may be stiffened by strips 6 cemented between the diaphragm and the panels. Two spaced diaphragms may be provided and a number of diaphragms may be arranged vertically or diagonally between strips extending across the door or partition. Specification 327,186, [Class 20 (iv)], is referred to.
